They will just get eaten by the mothers. However Angelfish will take care of the prob but they need large tanks.

Hmmm....about a 45gal tank you've got there.

I really like your stocking levels. Ever consider just giving the fry away, or raising them until their a couple months old and sending them to your LFS?

It's tough to have livebearers w/out the possibility of lots of babies.

:dive: since my first posting one of my platys has had more babies
i must have at least 30 in my tank now of various sizes.may well catch some for the lfs when they are big enough. i have only been keeping fish for about 2.5 months this is my second tank i decided that the first was not big enough(approx 18g) my 45g im running now was only set up on friday 6th oct

Couple of things I want to mention....

The lesser concern:
The loaches are going to need another 1-2 to go with them

The greater concern:
Who sold you all of those fish right after you set up a tank? Go smack them for me! Did they not mention anything about cycling the tank prior to putting fish into it? I wouldn't put that many in at once in a cycled tank, let alone a non-cycled tank! You've got a lot of work ahead of you if you want to keep those fish alive... you might want to do some reading about the nitrogen cycle and about how toxic ammonia is...

You might try figure 8 puffers or something along those lines. They require protein in their diet and will greedily gobble them up. I am having the same problem, my guppies got started and now they won't stop. Stuck with 75 fry right now with more on the way. my pygmy puffers have already eaten a few. But of course, they don't eat for a few days after eating the fry...lol

So, kraemerwa2003, are you in the situation where they are producing faster than your hungry puffers can eat them? Whoa, okay, 75 fry...yes, you are close to or have exceeded critical mass for a couple small puffers.

as i mentioned a had another tank used what water i had from that plus im running the old power filter alongside the new one and i was then told not to buy any more fish to add to the tank for at least 2 weeks in case i put the tank into shock and end up killing the whole lot. now i shave a catfish sulking as i think the other 2 are becoming very friendly lol.

Ok, I did not realize that you had an established filter along with the new one. My apologies there. (I didn't check around to see if you had another thread relevant to this one, I just assumed that all relevant data pertaining to this topic was in this one)

I recommend dwarf gouramis. The little pigs will eat anything.

I had to seperate my male guppys from the females...It was in the end, the only solution. I feel cruel feeding unsuspecting fry to larger fish, and my LFS does not give me much for them. But every now and then I will breed a really beautiful bunch of fry and sell them or trade them for fish food. it sucks because tehya re soo happy in my 10 and 20 gallon tanks, but I cannot possibly keep them all in there and I know wherever I sell them or give them two that probably 1/2 of them or more will die when they are happy here at home.

You might try figure 8 puffers

Figure 8 puffers are brackish water fish, not compatible with the tank nor stock in question.

:coffee: looks like angels are the answer i dont mind having a food chain in my tank but some i think will have to go to lfs. i have seen some nice looking angels in my lfs they were black, white and yellow . i really want some khuli loach too

I just don't know how to get the overpopulation under control. The next step I think is going to be just getting rid of my guppies and getting something that doesn't breed easily. My apologies, my LFS sells Figure 8 puffers in freshwater, so I figured they were freshwater. i don't have any, so no worries.
