Well i am going to be putting a pond in next year, but you no how it get cold here, So i have to take them inside for the winter:(, So i no i cant have gold fish, they get to big for my tank inside.... Oh ya my tak inside is a 20gal :( so what fish can i have in a pond? My pond will probly be 150-200gals+ but i dont got the inside space for a big tank... so what fish can i have?

you can keep the fish outside as long as you have a pond heater that keeps a hole in the center of the pond for gas exchange. As long as there is a heater, it is ok to keep the fish there.

Coldwater fish anyway.

You can have a few goldies but you need the pond to be at least 4 foot deep so they can hibernate. Dangerdoll is right, with a heater it will help to stop it freezing completely.

I agree with above. My advice is make your pond bigger if you have'nt built it yet. l50 gallons can not sustain many coldwater fish as they can grow quite large. And yes make sure it is 4' deep, especially where you reside. The most common change after people put in outdoor ponds is to latter make them BIGGER...do it right the first time if possible. goodluck-jeff

Hmm ok ill make it at least 4 feet deep.... but how big of heater will i need?

Most floating stock tank heaters are 1000-1500 watts, and get pretty expensive to run 24/7 for 3-4 months. The other option is using an air pump to agitate hte surface to keep it from freezing.

WOW thats lots of watts, bublers? wouldnt the fish die? the water would be to cold even tho it is not froze? remember i am in sask canada lol

there is actually a heated aerator for ponds. my neighbor uses one on a corner of the pond in her backyard and the ducks never leave because of a heat lamp. this is MN, ducks always leave
