I am considering adding some gouramis to an almost empty 75 gal (only 15 tetra's atm). The tank has cycled and I'm ready for stocking. I'd initially settled on some dwarf gouramis, since I'd read that they grow out quite small and are somewhat relaxed.

I went around the LFS stores and at two of them I was told you could put lots of gouramis of several species in a tank! I was told at one store that we could 'school' gouramis just like tetras given enough tank room(?!)

I ended up wanting to add 3 each of pearls, dwarfs, and golden (honey) gouramis, but... I've held off because what I've read is contrary to that- that gouramis tend to be territorial, esp. when in breeding condition. Who's right? Can I add 3 or more gouramis of several species in one 75-gal?

Not wanting to leave empty-handed (!) I picked up 2 juvenile Siamese flying foxes and have them for clean-up crew until I resolve this gourami question!

I'd say the literature you've read is correct. I really am partial to Dwarf Gouramis. They are true gems of the freshwater world...great looking, just need decent attention to water quality, plus they have zero attitude.

i like dwarfs, but then again, i like pearls too. i think since you have a bigger tank, you should get pearls instead of dwarfs or honeys

you could possibly do a large shoal of them, and i have read that they are very peacefull, but i would get 1 male and at least 3 females

Dwarfs or Pearls would be a good choice and Pearls are the most peaceful Gouramis I have seen. With a 75 Gallon tank you can hold a good sized shoal of Pearl Gouramis. If you get Dwarf Gouramis I suggest 2 females for every male.

If you want a larger, but peaceful(even timid) gourami, you could try Moonlight Gourami. They get around 6 inches and are very good community fish(but they might eat slow-moving smaller fish). They aren't as stunning as other gourami, though.

pearls are so nice! and they have a good temper,i have one that i got a long time ago thats lives at a friends comunity tank.
