I know this is stupid.. but I didn't realize this until after everything was set up, and the tank was cycling. (This is only the 2nd day, though.)

I bought a 10g tank, and decided to cycle it with 2 fish. A guppy, and another fish that I can't remember the name of..

Anyways, instead of the tiny gravel tanks usually have, we bought these big pebbles:

The guy at the fish store said to feed them only 1 flake for each fish a day.. but they have an extremely hard time finding that "1 flake." I don't mean to insult the intelligence of a fish.. but come on now.. :p

The guppy finds the food on the top of the tank fine, he seems comfortable with the tank already, and is out and about.

The other fish I have:

The fish that I can't remember the name of, this is what it looks like:

It hides behind the decorations in the tank, and seems very shy. It hasn't eaten since yesterday..

So I was watching him carefully.. and as soon as he got close to the filter water, I put a flake in, and it went under water, and he saw it and was going after it.. but as soon as it hit the pepples, it kinda got lost in there and gave up going after it.

Could these peoples pose a problem? And why is the fish so shy? :rant2:

That other fish is a mickey mouse platy. They can get skittish and freaked out by new surroundings, but once they are comfortable you'll find them to be pretty gregarious and active (and constantly begging for food). Mine go into freak-out mode if the glass squeaks when I'm cleaning it. There may be some extra stress too during the cycle. Do you have a liquid test kit to monitor ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate?

As for the pebbles, I find larger pebbles will collect more debris as the food slips down to where the fish cannot get it. This just means that you'll have to be pretty diligent about your gravel vacuuming.

I see..

What kind of gravel do you have in your tank? And if anyone else could chime in, I'd appreciate it!
