I was feeding my tank the fiftymillion foods I havefor everyone, and of coarse they all came out to eat, even something I've never seen before.....it looked like a cross between a gray centapeed(sp?) without all the extra legs and a pill bug. He's about a centimeter long and swims fast, real fast but mostly walks along the bottom, and likes to hide under the our live rocks. I called the store where we bought our live rocks and coral and they said they had no idea what it could be! Have you guys scene this before? Is it bad? :help:

bristleworm?

It may not be a bristle worm if it was out in the light. Could it be some sort of shrimp? There are so many things in liverock and peices of coral you buy. I am always surprised when something I didn't buy pops out. Labling a pest witout a picture would be hard. If you can get a better look at it and do a search on invert's you may be able to narrow it down.

no it's definately not a bristleworm......I found pics and it looks nothing like a bristleworm.....the guy I called at the store we bought the live rock at said it could be an iso___ somethingor something along those lines......what do I do....theres a lot of them. A LOT!

Do you have a link? Fwiw, most isopods are harmless some of them are parasites on fish but, they have wicked looking mouth parts. If you could find a link for something that was close we could help you a little more .... Well, in all honestly probably not but, we could at least tell you what general sort of critter it was and if it was a threat to your fish. There are so many worms, and crustaceans that even an expert marine biologist would be hard pressed to tell you exactly what it was.

Also if it is a scavenger of some sort it might be from over feeding your tank. It sounds to me like you are giving a wide variety of foods I hope not frequently.l If you are overfeeding that will cause and explosion of scavengers and cutting back on excess foods will cause the problem to self regulate.

Thanks guys for all your info. I was able to catch one and I brought it to my store and the guy told me to buy a six line wrasse(sp?). He seems to be enjoying feeding on them. Not to mention he's gorgeous. And we put more snails and crabs in our tank to help with mantinence.

No, it wasn't bristleworm.....we got a wrasse and it ate everything, but now we can't find the wrasse....I think it died...and now we cant get rid of this brown algee (sp?) problem, the store says its from the distilled tap water we've been using. How do we get rid of it? Water changes with sotre-bought premixed water is not working! And we have 8 snails and they're not even putting a dent in it! And now its spread to the crushed coral on the bottom of the tank so we got more crabs, 6 in all now and they aren't doing much either! Plusour shrimp won't leave our live rock, but the rock looks amazing so he's doing a great job! HELP ME my tank is brown!
