Stalled fishless cycle

I had read an article which I thought was pretty informative and helpful. Here is the link...

However - after discovering that the daily dose of Pure/Clear Ammonia was putting me well over the 8PPM level - I found that some had said that all you really need to do is get the Ammonia to 4 or 5PPM and then just wait for the Nitrites to kick in. This was confirmed by a few others, and so I have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting some more.

It's been nearly 2 weeks since I got the Ammonia to 4/5PPM and it has just stayed the same. The water is a really nasty green color, and the Nitrites have never kicked in. I did take a very small amount of the water out, and replaced it with more purified water from my water purifier. This brough the Ammonia parameter down to about 3/4PPM, but still - no Nitrites.

Any advice on this would be great. I'm hoping that this is just a waiting game, and I only being impatient (with all the crap that is in that water I can imagine that the bacteria colonies will probably - eventually - be larger and stronger than fishy cycling, but it just seems stalled to me).

Many thanks in advance!

2 weeks in kind of a long time. Your cycle should have definantly started already. Can you answer a couple questions so we can help you figure out what seems to be the problem?

Are you sure your test kits are accurate?
What are your readings as of now?
Have you had your LFS test your tank water?
What kind of ammonia did you use?
