Hey all, I'm doing some market research for a class in grad school. I'm writing a business plan for a craft microbrewery, and I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I'm just interested in a few questions, if you could take the time to throw out some answers I'd really appreciate it.

How often do you buy beer?
What types of beer do you usually purchase (microbrews, big american megabrews, etc)?
Are you willing to spend an extra buck or two for a better product?
In what kind of situation do you usually drink beer (with meals, at parties, watching tv, etc)?
How often do you try new beers?
If you try something new and like it, how likely are you to buy it again?
Have you ever looked for a certain type of beer and not been able to find it?
How picky are you about your beer?

If there's anything you would rather not answer in a public forum, feel free to skip those, no problem. I realize there are much better/more accurate ways of doing this, but right now its more to satisfy initial curiosity than to help create a concrete marketing plan. Thanks in advance for your help!

This can be self-incriminating.

1. Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays usually.
2. Microbrews for the most part (Never noticed before now).
3. Yes
4. Parties, bar nights, seldom bored nights and special occasions.
5. Everytime something catches my eye or word of mouth makes it sound good (Not very often).
6. Very likely.
7. Yes.
8. Somewhat.

Bought a 6 pack of Sam Adams back in January (I run a home brew shop)

See above! I don't eat yellow snow or drink yellow beer!

Are you willing to spend an extra buck or two for a better product?

Yep!

In what kind of situation do you usually drink beer (with meals, at parties, watching tv, etc)?

Yes.

How often do you try new beers?

Whenever I can.

If you try something new and like it, how likely are you to buy it again?

I'll try and make some of my own to match it.

Have you ever looked for a certain type of beer and not been able to find it?

Nope!

How picky are you about your beer?

See above statement about yellow beer; my tastes run to the British style IPA's and the ilk.

How often do you buy beer?
Two to three times a week
What types of beer do you usually purchase (microbrews, big american megabrews, etc)?
Usually the cheap stuff & high-gravity malt liquor
Are you willing to spend an extra buck or two for a better product?
Sort of; there are some beers I cannot choke down no matter how cheap they are
In what kind of situation do you usually drink beer (with meals, at parties, watching tv, etc)?
I should list situations where I will NOT drink beer. I would be a shorter list.
How often do you try new beers?
Once or twice a year
If you try something new and like it, how likely are you to buy it again?
Probably not
Have you ever looked for a certain type of beer and not been able to find it?
Yes, but not often
How picky are you about your beer?
Moderately picky; I will not drink fruit beer, honey beer, walnut beer, ginseng beer,...you get the idea.

1 Two to three times a week
2 I buy mostly micro brews mostly locally brewed fat tire 1554 etc.
3 I dont like cheep beer so an extra buck is better than water beer.
4 I drink with dinner at parties and during the weekend.
5 I try new beer when available I like honey browns and amber ales so I try alot of different kinds when I see them.
6 I have some favorites but when I find a tasty one I will definately try it again.
7 I have a couple of places I like to eat that dont have my favorites.
8 If I go to a bar and they dont have my first choice I get a list of ambers and nut browns and or other micro brews. I enjoy Sam Adams that is pretty much everywhere so I dont have too much a problem.

I pretty much cant stand the commercially reconized brews such as bud miller etc. cant stand the "water Beer"

I love beer. :dive2: It's my favorite beverage. I live in Delaware and we have a local brewer called DogFish Head Beer. I love it. I costs a little more, but it's worth it. My only problem is that I'm trying to quit smokeing. I can't drink on the medication I'm on to try to help me. I have been buying all the different NA beers I can find. Some are good, but most of them stink. So far, St. Pauly's is the best. I wonder if I can talk DogFish Head into making a NA brew?

I'm actually reading Sam Calagione's book, about starting up Dogfish Head. Its very interesting, and I love their beer.

Thanks for the help guys, keep it coming!
