Over the past week, several of my apons have flowered and I thought I would try my luck at pollenating them. It appears that I was successful because several of the flower stalks have seeds starting to grow. My questions is do I need to push the flowers under water now that they have started to seed? Or is it ok to leave them above the waterline and the seeds will mature and drop off on their own?

you can leave them emersed.

Left to their own devices, they will throw seeds all over the place. You will have Apon. plantlets growing in places you didn't even know you had.:)
This was my experience at least.

i bought a cple the bulbs from walmart, only two of em grew. from those two i have 6 planted apons now and 3 on stem(just waiting for roots to show up before i cut and plant). these plants are easy to grow and flower pretty easy. with mine they either flower, produce new bulbs, or send up a long stem with a single leaf. the single leaves look cool and float at the top. plus all my apon look different, has to be one of my fav plants

Only two of mine sprouted from those "guarenteed to grow" wal-mart seeds. :mad2:

With my plants, I have had good luck by picking bulbs that are a rich brown or reddish brown color and are a decent size, usually about half an inch (1.25cm) in diameter. I have had about an 80% success rate with this guideline. On the other hand, with the dwarf lily bulbs I also bought from Wmart, I have bought 4 bulbs and all 4 have sprouted. Two of them still have just a short green-red spike of of a sprout and the other two are growing very well. The most recent were purchased about 3 months ago. I have noticed that they are very slow growing compared to an aponogeton.
