Fish colours

Now, heres something that I've been curious about since it started happening. When my tank light is off, my fish (cichlids) retain their strong colours and when the lights on, some of them appear to have faded colour. Are they uncomfortable with the lights or something? Does it stress them out?Whats the deal?
 
some fish fade when there is stress, lights coming on is a stress because to them it's an instant on sun, would make anything stressed.
 
sure, thats what I thought too, but they stay faded even after its been on for the day after they had plenty of time to adjust to it. So what, that cant mean some of them are stressed out all day....does it?
 
some fish like rainbows colours get dark when they rest, while other fish like the noens lose colour when they rest. check your water make sure theres nothing wrong with it.
