I just found a little cluster of eggs on one of the leaves of my red ludwigia plants. My tank has gouramis, guppies, and platies, as well as a dojo loach, a farlowella catfish, and lots of snails. I know the eggs aren't from my livebearers, so could they be from my gouramis? I have no idea how to sex gouramis. I currently have a floating breeding trap which has three baby mickey mouse platies in it. Should I put the eggs in there so they'll be safe, or leave them out in the main tank? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok. Hopefully my dojo loach will make a meal of them. :) Those darned snails!

What kind of snails? It's my understanding that mystery and apple snails lay their eggs near, but not in the water, like above the water line, or on the lid, etc.

Gourami's are bubble nest builders, and the other suspects are livebearers. Since it looks like you have one each of the others.... Did you just get the plant, and the eggs are hitchhikers? How tall is that plant, could the leaf have been out of the water?

The red ludwigia is about 3 inches tall, so no, it isn't out of the water- I've had it for about 2 weeks, it's fairly new. But the eggs aren't hitchhikers- I would have seen them before. I think my snails are mystery snails but I'm not sure. They came along with the plants last time I bought them.

If the snails came along with your earlier plants they probably aren't brigs--mystery snails are larger and you usually have to buy them. They might be pond snails or ramshorn snails.

Most of the snails are very small, and light brown. I have two or three, but then I have one snail that is pretty large with a dark brown shell. It came attached to one of the plants and I think it might be a mystery snail.
