depends on how friendly your male betta is. do you know if he's friendly towards other fish? are you willing to find out?

my daughter

has a shubukin goldfish with her male betta in a 10gal tank, post pics tomorrow. the goldfish could care less about the betta and the betta thinks the goldfish is pretty big.

I've got mine in with some mollies but you've got to make sure you can move fish around if aggression occurs. Apparently, I was lucky in my ignorance because mollies are most often fin nippers. I'd stear clear of neons cause they're schooling fish and they're much better off in larger schools which a ten gallon couldn't really hold with a male betta as well. You could look at some snails, otos, shrimp. Again, it really depends on the betta's temperment.

oust the goldfish ASAP!

true.. back on subject... I will wait until tomorrow to stalk my prey....

DO NOT GET GOLDFISH!!!!!they have very different water needs than a betta, either way,if you make it comfortable for you goldy your betta will suffer and vise versa, plus a ten gal is way to small for a goldfish.
these are good stocking plans IMO,

1 betta (male or female)
6 neon tetras
5 ghost shrimp

1 betta
4 cory cats
one snail

1 betta
6 black neon tetras
5 ghost shrimp

1 betta
1 dwarf gourami(be ready to seperate,i have kept them together before but you never know...)
3 cory cats

2 bettas (divided if course)
planted with ghost shrimp on both sides and maby a mystery snail on both sides also.
