Hey, I'm kinda new here, been on multiple other forums for different hobbies for over 6 years. Back when I last kept fish, the Internet wasn't as big of a place as it is today. Now there is a wealth of info everywhere but you sometimes don't know what to believe.

Heres my setup.

New 55 gal tank, penguin 350 H.O.B. filter, Fully Cycled already.

Ph - 7.2
Nitrates - 20 ppm
Nitrites - 0 ppm
Ammonia - 0 ppm

(can't remember other stuff off top of my head)

Tank is heavily planted with Anubius, Sunset & normal Hygrophilia, Giant Hygrophilia, Crypts, and some other stuff I can't remember the spelling of the name right now. I dose ferts one time a week, plants seem to be doing well and are growing. Crypts never melted or rotted like I was told they would.

I have a school of 6 Whitecloud's given to me by a friend who had them in an outdoor pond, its colder now, so they needed a place to live and I like them. I also have 4 Neon Tetras (might be 3 by the time I get home - one didn;t look so good when I brought him home from the LFS 2 days ago, surprised he hung on this long really) and 1 Banjo Catfish - who is strangely semi active during the day.

Current plans are to keep 8-10 Neon Tetras with the 6 Whiteclouds and the Banjo. And I know that I have some room for other fishies. But I want the out of the norm kind of fish. Everyone has Rasboras, tetras, Barbs, etc. Are there any oddity fish that would be allowable in my tank with the current tankmates, plants, and filtration? Cost isn't an issue really, I can save up if I need to or sell some crap on eBay.

I'm all ears.

1. Farowella Cat
2. Raphael Cat
3. Some of the cooler Syno species
4. Butterfly Fish

Heh, 30 more Whiteclouds... maybe 5 more. :D

About the Farlowella Acus fish, i've been told they eat plants. Not good for my planted tank.
Raphael Cat - I have small fish. Not gonna work.
Synodontis Species - small fish. Not gonna work
Butterfly fish - Had 2 before, many years ago. They didn't fare well and eventually died. Might get them again though. They do seem pretty cool.

peackock gudgeon, not so many people have them, super colorful and only get like 2inches. They are a small species of goby i think.

What about a school of some type of rainbowfish? There are tons of different types and they are all beautiful and colorful! Bowheads has a lot of info on the different types. :read: Good luck!! Let us know what you end up deciding!! :D

Go the Rainbowfish :). They would work well with the fish you've already got and look great in planted tanks. I have a school of larger species and a school of smaller species in my 50G. If you get them from a good source they shouldn't give you any problems (suit most water types, disease hardy, not picky with food, good in a community etc etc).

I like to get them when they're small (I like to watch them grow and they're cheaper). Be prepared to pay a fair bit for a well coloured adult though.

This site has all the known species, and everything else you'd ever need to know about Rainbowfish (it doesn't have a forum though).

to my knowledge Farowellas eat algae and vegetables...never heard anything about them eating plants.

The raphs may get too big for white clouds, but some of the smaller synos(if you can find them) don't get that big. Remember, most cats will only eat fish that will fit in their mouths. They don't like to chew.

How about glass catfish, upside down cat, farlowella or blind cave fish?

Edit: sorry, didn't notice that you said you didn't want farlowella..though I've never had any damage my plants before.
