Hi, I'm 13 and about to get my first tank (freshwater, 20g not long) and I'm gonna put some guppies and glowlight tetras :dive2: . I've heard it is possible and actually healthy to sometimes feed fish fruits or veggies. Is it true, and, if so, what types would I feed them and how much? I'm getting between 2-4 guppies (all male), and 6-12 glowlight tetras. Any help would be appreciated :bowing: . Thanks!!! :coffee:

my Fish love orance slices, my pleco's love cucumber, squash potato etc etc... yes. It's fine.. though not required for most fish.

Just remove the uneaten ones from the tank as they might spoil in there. I've tried using zuchini (spell?) and orange slices before. :D

When I had guppies they used to love picking on small chunks of blanched vegetables (eg zuchini). It kept them occupied and was very cute to watch them chase it around the tank. Not essential but fish seem to enjoy a change in their diet. I put a small piece in in the morning and take it out in the afternoon (like khombre said, so it doesn't spoil).

Lettuce is really not the best choice to give to your fish. It really does not have much nutritional value. Try shelled peas, baked yams or zucchinni that has been blanched. I haven't tried fruit so I cannot comment on that.

I slice up Zuchini for my Brigs, toss it in microwave for 1 min then toss it into the tank.

My female guppies pigged out on one piece and the snails went for the other. The Guppies actualy ate the entire inside untill there was nothing left. The snails do this as well, but also eventualy finish the skins up so I never remove anything. They usualy have them consumed in a day or so.

A regular 20 gallon is still longer than it is tall.
