The pond with some Triops
ok. What percent water change are you supposed to do every week? I do 20% water change. The problem is that if I do more than 30%, the water level goes below the filter tube thingy. What do I do? I heard that turning off your filter can kill the bacteria living inside the thing..

It's ok to turn off the filter for a water change. The bacteria won't get killed off if you don't take too long (ie. several hours or something). I usually do 20-30% water changes per week.

50%.
I turn the filter off while i am working in the tank (all the equipment is on a switch). When i do a big trim/ rearrangement of plants that can take quite a while - never had a problem with "bacteria dieoff".

I do the same as the other two... Just turn it off for the duration. The water that's in there when you do this will keep them going. They don't last long, but for a coule of hours they're pretty hardy.

If you can keep the water from siphoning out of hte filter box while you do this, so much the better. But if you can't, you can't. No biggie.

I have to admit, when I saw the title, I was afraid we were being recruited to carry buckets. ;)
