does anyone know the approximate difference in hydro cost for 4x54 watt t5 lights vs
2x150 watt metal halides?

Well, let's just do some simple math:
4x54 = 216 watts.
2x150 = 300 watts.
Since a watt is a watt is a watt and assuming that you would have each fixture on for the same amount of time per day, you would saving 84 watts of power with the T5 lights versus the MH.
Now of course to utilize this power savings, you'd get a T5HO unit with individual reflectors.
