Hello there.

A donation: I'll have a 10 gal to play with. I want something original and lively in it.

From reading here, I found that I could do one of the 5 things here

1- A trio of dwarf puffers with 2 ottos

2- School of Harl. Rasboras and 4 small corys

3- A Blue Ram couple

4- Shell Dwellers AC

5- Ghost Shrimps and Snails.

6- Some live-bearers (not too crazy about those mollies/platties/guppies thingies)

7- Dwarfs Gouramis maybe?

No bettas, thanks...

The idea is to have something that will move a lot and since it's a small tank, something that could survive occasionnal water quality variations... but something flashier could be interesting too.

Lots of small fishes would be great, but I hear that puffers are really fun and the shrimp set-up has to be the most original...

What to do???

ok. ill start with the dwarf gouramis
the can get pretty agressive toward other males, and if you want more than one male, you need at least 3 females per male, and your tank cannot support all of those fish; and, there is not much room for a lesser male to escape the greater male he is chaing the lesser one.

shell dwllers by themselves would be great

IME, a pair of rams do best in a 20 gallon, but a single ram and his girl may work if they are by themselves.

besides what livebearers you have listed, the only ones i can think of are dwarf livebearers, and you could have alot of them in your tank, but good luck finding them :D

im pretty sure that 6 harlequins and 4 corydoras would be to much for your tank, so why not instead skip the corys and then get two more rasboras?

i havent had dwarf puffers, but i have heard that if you have enough plants otos can work

OK, so I started with 5 ideas and added 3 more before the END of my first post.

Here are a couple of things I did not think of and I hope they can be done:

A loach or cory set-up. Now that could be an active tank!

Dwarf loach (active during the day is a plus) or Kulih (weird look)or another? That would be a nice set-up. Could these 2 be combined? What other fish could go with them?

For the catfish, any suggestions?

I like the idea to have a species only tank. Again, I want a lively tank with something of interest in it. The fish can't be too fragile, it is a 10 gal and sometimes things go wrong pretty quickly in there...

I narrowed it to these:

Loach (what species, how many, with what?)
Dwarf Puffer trio (with a couple of ottos and shrimps. or...?)
Catfish (something that looks on speed like albinos, but not albinos and hatchets I guess)
Shrimp set-up...

I like them all equally, and the AC shell dwellers too, but I want to keep it simple, so I ruled them out.

I guess what would be best would be Puffers with shrimps and dwarf loaches, but I don't think that can be done in a 10 gal...

Or start the tank with snails and shrimps, wait until the plants are big and then put the puffers in...

I really like what I read about puffers, but are they a ***** kind of fish? How fragile are they?

I have a 10g with 3 Dwarf Puffers and 2 otos, working very well so far and I really enjoy having the DPs, they are really cool little fish.
