OK i was thinking that when i replace my filter media it would be better to cut it in half and cut the new one in half so then the Bacteria wouldnt have to start over it would just grow on the new piece and then put the other half in after a few weeks. Would this work?

What kind of filter are you talking about? More than one filter on the tank?
I believe a lot of people on here recommend just rinsing the filter pads in used tank water to get the big stuff off and reuse. They do this until it is all but falling apart. A lot of your bacteria colony will be on there and you do not just want to keep throwing them away.

10 gallon - one guppy one platy and 4 neon tetras(i know not a great stocking but they all moving into a larger community tank with other platies, guppies and tetras to make way for a trio or pair of killifish)
