just brought a fish back from local fish shop put bag in tank to warm water to the tank then was about to start adding water to the bag to acclimates him to his new home but i lifted the bag up out of the water & the bag had a big hole in it for some reason all the water drained out in seconds so i had to put the fish rite in the tank
Anyone ever done this?
If so did the fish live?
Was the fish ok are did the fish have problems ich etc

Just keep a close eye on it. How long did you have it floating? If it was a good length of time, then it should be okay.

It should be fine...most web-pages will say to let them float for between 15 minutes and half an hour, not to exceed an hour. The most popular time is about 20 minutes. Check ur water params and make sure that the addition of the store water doesn't affect anything.

All params are fine thank fully tomorrow morning will be the next step i guess then i`l just look out for signs of ich during the next week not the easiest fish to watch citron goby (blue cheek goby) as its a fish that likes to hide within the live rock

all gobies are like that...I have 3 freshwater gobies (bumblebee gobies) and all they do is hide. They hide behind plants, in my caves, even behind other fish...lol

Actually, for marine fish, it's gennerally reccomended that you acclimate them for atleast an hour, often more. You also have to add water to the bag, becuase marine fish are a lot more sensitive to quick changes in water prams.

yes i know that you need to add amounts of water every 15mins for an hour are longer thats what has worried me but i add no option but to put him in the main tank as there was no water in the bag :( people must have hit the same problem as me im just hoping he will be fine & ich free

That's good to know for me! I don't have marine tanks, just thought that I would TRY to help out...lol. That makes sense...although I don't see there being a problem if the water was introduced into the bag through the hole anyway...as I said before, just watch em...

i to had a simular issue with a niger trigger as soon as i dropped the bag into my tank to do a temp acclimation the trigger busted through the side of the bag and promptly went after my large vol lion ..although my lion promptly retaliated his jesture by sucking him right up lol..he did inevidably spit him back out and they learned to torture each other :argue: for another 2 yrs...oh yeh after 2 yrs my lion finally nailed him good :thud:

the goby seems fine on day 4 swimming eating etc but i was just wondering after not acclimatising him properly if ich was going to happen as a Result of what happened how long would ich take to show signs flicking not eating white spots etc

ich can happen even if you do everything right, because of catching the fish, bagging it, and carrying it around, so there is nothing you can do in iether way, just wait a week and see. one of the stores around here only aclimates their fish to the temperature and never to the water. actually, i got a copperband butterfly from them the same day they threw it in their tank, and he didn't have ich after i brought him home and aclimated him the way you supposed to.

yeah it is your best netting your new fish out of the bag & throwing the water down the drain because the water in the bag has ammonia in it due to the fish been stressed never mind fouling the water with pooh yeah you water it down by half are more by adding water to acclimatise the fish but why risk adding ammonia in your main tank just for the sake of 4liters max of extra water
It's not the ammonia I worry about as much as the parasites etc. IMO a qt tank is one of the best investments that you can ever make for the long term health of your tanks.

Listen as quoted by Drago in Rocky 'if he dies he dies'. Fish can be very tempramental, as mentioned in one of the previous posts, you can do everything right and still have a death to fish out. Knowing your luck he will prob live, and as for the huge hole in the bag, its prob safer to remove those knives and medievil daggers you must have in your tank to avoid another hole in the bag syndrome.
Take care and dont worry it could always be worse my friend.
