I'm gonna post this in a few forums for variety........
My pal and I were discussing (rather boisterously) our breeder setups.
I tend to keep my adult breeders in larger tanks, ranging from 55-265g depending on the species. I let fry grow out in smaller tanks, say 10-33g. For example, I have 1M, 5F Otter Point Jacobfreibergi in a 75G with a few other fish. I have the fry in a 20 growout. I have used this setup for most of my fish over the past 12 years. (for the record, let's say the majority of fish I breed have an adult size of 4"-7").
My pal says put the breeders in as small a tank as possible and keep all the fry from all the different species growing out in large tanks. His thought was that the fry would grow faster in a larger tank with more room. Give the breeders just need enough space to breed. I've been to many guys' homes where they have 100 juvenile growouts in a 75 gallon tank. I'll keep 10 in a 20G growout. Is my thought process backwards? I'm curious as to what others do....
