alas, all cichlids are different. which cichlids are we talking about here?

Well, African Cichlids.
I have 1 Power Blue, 1 Yellow Lab. I have also just brought home 3 new ones which i am yet to identify.
(1) Bluish/Purplish with all fins being Yellow.
(1) Pinkish / Skin Color with specs.
(1) Bright Orange.
Ill post pics when i get a chance. But getting info on the ones I do know should help.

Hondaman,
Each type has different sexing characteristics. So it is very hard to generalize on how to sex them.
With many males will have bright egg spots on their anal fins while the females won't. With others the male is very bright while the female is drap. And in others yet, the male will be one color while the females are a completely different color.
Until you know the species of the fish you have it will be hard to tell you how to sex them.
This is one of many reasons that people should know the exact scientific name of the fish they are purchasing.
