the tank is a 50 gallon 36-18-17, i was wondering if i could keep my tiger oscar in it for life and maybe a spiny eel and small pleco.

My opinion would be thats the absolute bare minumum for a tiger oscar. Adding anything else would be overstocking. Idealy oscars should have a larger tank still.

I'd prefer a 75.

Just one oscar needs a large aquarium of at least 75-100 gallons just for himself. If you want to have playmates then the tank needs to be even bigger than that to accomadate all of the fish safely.

you could keep ONE and only one oscar in there and nothing else. i'd still prefer to get it a bigger tank, like 70 gallons, but they can live to a ripe old age in a 55G tank IME. my mother kept an oscar in a 55G for years. grew to a proper size of 12", and was always happy.

You could do it but you would need a whole bunch of filtration and fairly frequent water changes.

plus, what kind of pleco is it? a "small" pleco today may not be small 6 or even 3 months from now.

a small pleco(i dont have one yet) would be something like a bristlenose or king tiger or something that wouldnt get any bigger than 6inches

as I said, a 55G would be just barely big enough for the oscar, and ABSOLUTELY nothing else.
