I currently have a 55 gallon hex set up in my room but it has a problem with leaking. Its developed 2 leaks which I've fixed, but now has developed a slow leak. After trying hard to get it fixed, I've resorted to ordering a 48 (If I remember right) gallon BowFront. My problem is: I dont have any space to set up both tanks as the bowfront needs to go where the current, 1/2 full Hex is. Whats the best way to get these fish (about 30 local river inhabitants) over to the new tank AND have the new tank established and ready for their Bio load? Im planning on using the same filter and gravel (along with all the wood orniments and plants) from the current tank, but I know just adding them wont instantly establish the tank. Do I need to get a kiddie pool from walmart or something in the mean time or would it be alright with frequent water changes to just transfer everything over? TIA.

If you're using the same filter and substrate, you're as good as there.
Empty the water. Hoik the fish out into a large bucket - I use one or more 5 UK gallon ale fermentation vessels filled with said water.
Put all the substrate in another vessel.
Swap the tanks.
Put the substrate in.
Part fill new tank with treated water of the right consistency and temperature.
Put the fish back in (might want to gradually mix the water by putting them in a floating container and gradually exchanging old for new water)
Refill tank.
Just be careful to watch for any degradation of water quality caused by mixing aerobic and anaerobic gravel layers. This is a theoretical possibility - never had it happen to me, but others have.

Awesome, thanks for the advice. I set up an extra 10 gallon I had laying around to house the fish while the move is made. The move starts tonight as I just unloaded the tank into my room! YAY! Its a 46gallon with black silicone and a black wooden stand. Im very excited.
