I purchased a few lemon tetras from Petsmart. I mentioned to the sales person that 1 looked as though he wasn't as yellow as the others. She stated that feeding them blood worms would bring out more color. She stated that all their new fish were fed blood worms for this reason. I asked if blood worms were appropriate for a community tank and she said yes. She suggested that I buy the cubes and break off the appropriate size and defrost in water then add to the tank. She said that the fish just love blood worms. I thought I would post the question to see if this advise can be confirmed.

Thanks for any response! ;)

I don't know about bringing out the color - seems I've read that somewhere before. As for a community tank - I have Feeding Frenzy Friday's. I feed my 3 Tiger Barbs and Neon Tetras bloodworms once a week. They go mad over them - it's like watching the discovery channel. :)

My fish love frozen bloodworms! I haven't noticed any color improvement on my community tank fish, but the bettas do have lovely color since I started treating them with the frozen instead of the freeze-dried.

Bloodworms are high protein, so you don't want to feed them too often in a community tank unless you have quite a few protein loving fish (most community tanks have a mix). Mine get it as their meal once a week, 1 whole cube for each 20 gallon gets devoured in a few minutes. I usually fast the fish the next day.

The best way to get beautiful colors in your fish is to feed them a varied diet of frozen, flake, and freeze dried foods. That along with weekly water changes is the best thing you can do for them and they will really show off thier true colors.
