I think that is a little much for a ten gallon but would be fine for say a 20 gallon. More space to play with and more volume of water which will make newbie mistakes a lot easier to handle per the volume of water in the tank.

No she says she will only do a 10 gallon lol. I asked her about the snail and she said that she would cutout the snail and possibly the ottos. But she HAS to have the betta and neons. :duh:

old people lol

Hello,

Seems a little over crowded to me with the ottos, mystery snail, the neons, and the betta. But some neons and a betta would probably be okay.

to me that sounds just fine. it is a little crowded, but as long as she keeps up on her WCs it will be just fine. sound s alot like mine, actually.

over crowded? 5 neons? a betta? ottos? all small fish..that should be fine

i have a planted ten gal with 10 neons, 3 cherry barbs 4 rummynose tetras 4 ottos and a few snails

of course..the plants aid in keeping the nitrates and ammonia down..and i have strong filtraition...but still..you should be fine

sounds ok to me, if the snail is a brig and the betta does not pick on it.

Are neons ok with a betta?

my sister had a betta in a 10 gal with 7 neons, they didnt bother him

rummy's, danios..congo tetras..serpaes..those are the ones, from my experience, that will hurt a betta

some really good tankmates for bettas are harlequin rasboras, they are very peaceful and will never pick on bettas. they also go nicely with them because they are both from the same area of the world and would live together in the wild.

We had a small tank (5gal bow) with a betta and 3 or 4 neons. It was too small to have the neons in there, but the betta killed at least one of the neons and picked the eyes out of another. I'm not sure if it was that betta in particular, the lack of space in the tank, or the colors of the neon. I have white clouds with my betta in a 10gal and haven't had any problems.

I think she would be fine with 6-7 neons and a betta, maby a mystery snail, but that would be the limit, tell her to get a filter marked for a 20-25 gal tank.
