Duh, I know how it happened...

one of my zebra danios must have been prego (and here I thought I was just over feeding them). I have never had a fry before (expect McDonalds), so I need some advice on what to do.

Here's whats going on right now.

This is in my tank which I just put two angel fish I rescued in (which one has already died). I took out all the danios after my wife witnessed one baby get eaten by one of the danios. So right now my tank has one very stressed angel and a pleco and that's it. The kids want me to try and save all the babies, there are at least 30 of them. How do I go about getting them out of the tank? I do weekly cleanings, so I guess I will have to wait a while. How long does it take them to grow big enough to catch with a net? What do I feed them? Is it really worth raising them or should I just let them be food? I don't have any other cycled tanks I can put them in, but I can start one if I can get the babies out.

Any advice would be appreciated. This is very new for me and kind of exciting, so well see where it leads to.
Thanks much
Jim

you can't really get them out at this age, i would definately remove the angel from the tank before it makes snacks out of the fry and then feed them fry food found at your lfs until them are big enough to move to a small (5-10 gallon) rearing tank progressively giving bigger food and making sure that the tank is plenty warm because fry are especially sensitive to cold drafts

good luck

Are they free-swimming yet, or still clinging to the tank glass? Your best bet getting survivors is to remove any other fish from the tank, but if you don't have any other cycled tanks to put them in you're in a tough spot.

Zebra fry look like little splinters with a blue eye. You could siphon them out and put them in a small tank that's 100% water from the old aquarium, maybe adding gravel or something else from that tank.

If you know anyone with microworms, you probably want some to start a culture.

Most of them are still clinging to the glass, a few of them are swiming around. The remaining angel fish died last night so all I have in the tank is my pleco. Do you thing he will bother them? I will go out and buy some food for them today. How long until they are big enough to catch and remove from the tank?

i don't think the pleco will bother them and to be honest idk how long it will be until you can net them but if i had to guess i'd say 3 weeks or so
