I hope this is the right place to post this.

I have recieved a leaking 15 gal octogonal tank. This is my first time repairing a tank. Is there any easy way if removing all the silicone? I started using a razor blade and my fingers are killing me. How clean does it have to be? Any helpful hints would be appreciated.
Thanks

keep working lol. A razor is the easist way IME.

After you get all of the silicone removed wipe it down with some alcohol.

Yes, I used razor too. No easier way, sorry. I scraped really well, very clean. If you do a thorough job now, you'll be less likely to have to deal with a leaky tank again. Much bigger headache once you have fish and everything up and running. Use aquarium silicone & do not wet before silicone is completely dry -- err on the conservative side and let it dry a few days before filling with water to test. Do use alcohol to clean the area before applying silicone.

Use the razor for the majority and then take acetone to it. The acetone will dissolve the remaining silicone. Keep rubbing and it will all come off quite easily. Just remember that acetone may eat through a normal set of rubber gloves. You will probably have to pick up a nitril pair. They are available at most hardware or janitorial supply stores. Keep the lid on the acetone as it evaporates quickly.

Nail polish remover has a high percentage of acetone & is cheap.

I was going to tell you to
1)fix leak
2) buy lizard & a new tank
3) put lizard in fixed tank
4) cycle new tank for fish
but then I saw it was an octagon tank...

an arboreal lizard like a gecko would love it.

Just watch it if you ever decide to get a Tokay - they're lil badasses. One tossed a rat from a high beam at lights-out at Aquarium Stock Co. ~30yrs ago... They met overhead on a beam (or pipe) - the Tokay grabbed the rat, shook it like a dish rag and tossed it to the floor.
