I would like to make a tide for a mudskipper tank and I was wondering if this (http://pic6.picturetrail.com/VOL174/1020046/1904388/22695774.jpg) design would work. You would have the solenoid valve on a timer and when it shut off the water from the sump would fill up the tank until it reached the second drain and that would be the high tide. Then when the solenoid valve would open the water would drain until it reaches the first drain and that would create a low tide. Do you think this system would work?

yea it would work. You need to check how much solenoid valves are though. ;)

Oh, and BTW, youll want that return to the main tank to be above the water line. Else your return pump shuts off and all the water flows backwards through the return line into your sump.

Remeber when you plan the system that your sump is going to need to be able to accomodate all that additional water that you have at low tide.

How would I get the holes drilled?

Glass or acrylic tank?

You can drill the holes yourself in either, acrylic can be drilled with a normal drill bit, for glass you need to use either a diamond bit or a metal bit with diamond dust.
