If it is acctually a blue crab then it is most likelt from the alantic ocean and will get quite large. Ive never heard of anyone keeping them in the aquarium. Do you have any pics or other info on it?

if it's a crayfish, i'd go ahead and add it to your main tank. he won't live long in that bowl. there are tales of them eating fish, but most healthy fish are far too fast for them to catch and you should be fine.

Um I can see mistaking crayfish for lobsters and vice versa, but crabs look entirely different from both of those.

The two do look a lot different, but as was pointed out, Blue Crabs are definitely a saltwater species. The only time I have ever seen them in freshwater, it was boiling....

Oh man, yeah. You can do dat. If you don' wanna wait, you can go to da mercantile and get you some o' dat Zatarain's Crab Boil from dem. You gonna put dat in de water and get it boilin' good.... Dat way you you aint' gonna have to wait for him to molt, no.
(Been down the Bayou a time or two myself... LOL)

Blue Crabs can be found in brackish water too. When I was younger my friend and I would "fish" for them. His parents would get scrap chicken necks from the grocery store. We would tie the chicken to a rope and drop it off a dock on the Estero River here in FL. The crabs would swarm the chicken and we would just scoop them up with a net. Man they were good eat'n!
PS they can also be sexed by the shape of their abdomen. Males have a "T" shape, like a phallus. Females are a rounded off, triangular shape.

I have blue crabs in front of my house, they can get way over 6" across.
We've got a tidal creek on one side of our property which includes all sorts of crabs. Blue crabs will wander upstream a bit, but they seem to prefer full salt. They'll eat most anything meaty, so she shouldn't be too hard to keep if you can give her enough room and provide good water quality.
