I use it in all my canister filters. I am very happy with it, and I am convinced that it works as described by seachem. However, I don't have any scientific testing to back up my observations, just my gut feelings.

How long do you wait before changing it ?

I haven't found a need to change it. I'm not sure that there are any conditions in which you would need to change it, unless the rocks started to break down.
