I thought I had a Jack Dempsey, but the colors have been changing a lot lately. Does anyone know what kind of fish that is? Look at my avatar picture for a photo. Thanks

Nope, basic head shape of severums is not as conical as his fish. Maybe an electric blue dempsey?

I agree, the body shape, lack of color on the lower portion of the gill plate and red trim on the tip of the dorsal look exactly like a male jack dempsey. the color however looks more like a robertsoni or a brightly colored firemouth. :)

its not a blue acara, or brown..or a robertsoni...different shape..and electric blue dempseys look nothing like that

i dont know, i've never seen a fish with that kind of color, and one that VERY closely resembles a jack dempsey..if this wasnt bhis fish, i would say it was photoshopped...but i dont want to call him out on that with no proof..i mean..the tail fin amd anal fins are a solid color..no change from the rest of the body

good call! busted!! ; ) it would be nice if I really had a fish that looked like that avatar picture. I spent a while playing with different colors and patterns, so I wanted to find out how realistic I made it look. I guess it wasn't too bad, but obviously I'm a novice at photoshop. Ya'll take it easy and thanks for the posts. I'm posting the real picture of "Jack" right now.

I re-read my original post and wanted to clarify that I didn't mean to imply I thought the fish was or even could be a robertsoni. I've owned several robertsoni and know the body shape was all wrong. I was merely noting that the color of the fish appeared similar to that of a robertsoni. like I said I re-read my original post and realized I made it sound like I was suggesting robertsoni as a possibility and that wasn't my intent. :)
