Im curious if any one can tell me or post pictures as to the difference between Heros efasciatus and Heros Severus? Is there some sort of distinct difference? From what I can see on the net they look extremely similar.

When seen "up close and personal", efasciatus has a much more pronounced, bluish masking on the face and more bluish hues throughout the body....REALLY nice...severus is the true green severum...some think they are the same...they definately are not when you seem them side by side...however, efasciatus is often sold as severus in the stores..true severus are actually a mouth brooder, while efasciatus is the substrate spawner...I'm waiting for some H. efasciatus "rio negro" fry to grow out at my breeders so i can get some for me...the parents look like discus in their coloration...indeed, severums have often been called "poor man's Discus".

Well I havent taken a pic yet but I purchased a new one today. Is the body shape diffrent between the two? The last green severum that I owned was not so lateraly compresed. The one I have now is still a juvie but his shape is much more compressed which is makeing me think that this one is the true severus and that maybe the last one was the efasciatus. Is this a differentiating quality between the two?
