I was just admiring my fish and heard myself talking to them outloud. Am I the only one who does this? Felt kinda silly - glad no one was around

I do it ocassionally. I mean, I don't have a conversation, i just say 'hello, little betta." and stuff like that. everyone does it. don't feel weird.

i dont talk to my fish.
sometimes i talk to my birds though...its funny though when people say they talk to their birds... some birds, like mine, can talk back!! lol. but its not like we can have a conversation or something. they just say hello, goodbye, etc. sometimes at appropriate times other times one of them will have a loud talking fit and start the other one up! its hillarious lol.

I do talk to my fish. I just like saying hi to them. Sometimes when I'm trying to get them to do something, like move out of the way or find their food, I unconsciously start talking to them like I would a dog or cat. Like "there it is, go get it" as if they can hear me :p: I forget sometimes that they're underwater so their hearing doesn't work the same way!

I talk to my fish all the time--they come swarm at the side of the tank when I come see them, so it is the least I can do to say hi back. Sometimes I tell my sick fish that they'd better shape up and swim right. I once threatened to replace my tiger barbs with a betta if they didn't stop fighting. It didn't work.

Um... yeah. I talk to them all the time. Quite often I baby talk to them. lol "aww aren't you a cute wittle fishy". Kids think I'm insane. LMAO!! :p: They know I'm talking to them, I'm sure of it!! They always come over to the side of the tank to see me.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one :p: Kinda didn't think I was, but a little reinforcement never hurts. YoFishboy, didn't think about asking the dog and cats what they thought about it. I'll talk to them about it today and see what they say :girl:

Aww I talk to my fish all the time. They are in the kitchen so if i'm waiting for the dinner to cook or the kettle to boil, I pull up a chair & chat to them... ask them how their days been & if they're feeling ok. During the recent 'poorly fish' time I reassured them daily they'd be ok. Lily loves the attention & comes right to the edge & follows my finger but Stemroach prefers to sit back & stare from afar. Its great to see their little personalities coming through... Or is it just me thats a bit crazy thinking they understand me
I even spoke to Pickle who had died. When I removed him I said 'Come on babe, it's time to go.. night night sweety, Godbless'
I guess its just my motherly instinct to talk to everything small, living & cute :D

It is nice to see that I'm not the only one seeing my fish as my little babies--and baby talking to them. Some of mine even have names--to go with their personalities.

**Giggles** at some of the responses - Sounds so familiar.... I talk with my fish too and of course my kids are like " she has lost her mind " lol It's funny... however they don't talk back but I'm sure they are thinking something lol My dog on the other hand is a pitbull puppy and you can sit and have a conversation with him ... Hahahha you can talk with him and everything you say to him he will come back with some " bark " or "growl" or something and He can say " i love you " hehehee
Haha I'm soo relieved. I soo talk to my fish. I mainly speak to my Betta and to my paradise fish, as they harbour the most personality and seem conversation worthy. I'll be like "Hey Blue Steel, ya freakin' loser! Why are you making friends with ghost shrimp when you should be eating them! LOSER!" I mostly jest, not that I think he's offended. I heart my fish. I'll cheer on my paradise fish when he refuses to be bullied by "evil" black skirt tetras. Talking to your fish is okay, it's when they talk back that you need to get your head checked :p

I've always talked to all of my critters. Talk to my fish all the time, cat, dog, horses, even the cattle on the farm. One huge Limousin (deep red) cow is my buddy; she talks back, and comes up to me while the calves skedaddle!!! Don't see a thing wrong with talking with animals.
