Hey guys
The only way i can explain what one of my coolie loaches has is it is a white puff growing on the side of him it is rather large like some kind of fungus?? what could it be!?!?!
P.S. i got them but i think it was already in the tank...seeing the the day before i got them all my shrimp had died that week.

Hi,
I have never had this disease before, but I found what I think it is in one of my books. I think it's Saprolegnia fungus. The book doesn't say how to treat it, other than give the fish food rich in vitamin C.
I know it's off topic, but how are your Zebra Loaches?

What are your water parameters? What is your water change schedule like? how much/how often? It sounds like fungus, is there anyway you can get a pic for us?

pima fix and mela fix used in conjunction are a good combo to battle fungus because it is both anti fungal and anti bacterial

The only effective treatment I've ever had for bad fungal infections is a fungus med like Jungle Labs Fungus Eliminator or MarOxy. It's a real crapshoot as to what you can get locally, and I have to order all of my meds because the local places carry next to nothing. If that's not available you might be able to treat it with a combination of Methyl blue and antibiotics (tetracycline or some such)
I know you can get alteast low level tetracycline and maracaryn from Wal-Mart if nowhere else, but they're disolvable tablets and can be somewhat hard to administer.

Hi,
That sucks! A little bit ago, I bought four Three-Striped Cories. They were doing great, but then every month one died. Only one made it and that one (Snuggles) is doing very good now. The reason I mention that is that they were breathing very fast before they died and not moving. I've never had fungus before, but I think it's hard to treat.
Keep us updated.
I hope the fish you have left will get better!

You can treat any disease with Lifeguard, it's an oxidizer that destroys fungus, bacteria, and parasites. It's very effective and probably less harsh than other treatments.

well the update is good and bad ...the bad the coolie i found after who also had gotten it is dead now (i am totally AMAZED by how fast they died after getting it!! it must be pretty horrible) and so i talked to the guy at big als (i really trust this guy he is pretty cool he looks like a short version of santa!! lol but ya cool guy we talk for a long time the last time i was there HE HAS 14 tanks!! 10 are cichlids and 4 are assorted discuss and angles he really into cories too! lol he finally got me to consider to switch my 55g over to a cichlid tank and buying ANOTHER 30g for cories!) ANYWAYS! he gave me something called E.M. TABLETS made by aquarium pharmaceuticals, none of my other coolies are showing signs of having it so HOPEFULLY they will be all good!!
P.S. NO I DO NOT HAVE A MAN CRUSH ON THE GUY AT THE FISH STORE!! lol so do not even start

Sorry to hear about the Coolie! I hope the other ones live, but with this fast killing fungus I don't know if they will.

EM tabs (erythromycin?) a broad spectrum antibiotic also maracyn.
I would suggest you try to retest your water..you may have suffered a mini cycle.
tho if this is planted(depending on plants..those should be minimal)
something is amiss. how are the nitrates?

I do believe that the fungus or what ever it is came from the betta my sister had given to me after she had taken it back again i saw it also had the "fungus" and last night it to died. And all my shrimp had died in the same week i added my coolies and took out my betta
What are your water parameters? What is your water change schedule like? how much/how often? It sounds like fungus, is there anyway you can get a pic for us?Once again I will ask, what are your water params?? Sounds like something is really amiss in your tank for all of these fish to be dying. Post your params and your water change schedule and we'll go from there in trying to help you save the rest of your fish!

Hi,
Your water params seem pretty good. My guess is that the Coolies already had the fungus when you got them and it wasn't anything you did. For the other deaths in the shrimp, I can't explain why, because your water params are good.
