Remember that TV commercial several years ago, with a Redneck family sitting around the bug-zapper on a warm summer night chortleing whenever a bug zapped?
Caught myself in the same frame of mind today...
Normally get some feeder minnows every Sunday for the Jack Dempseys. Did so today, put them in the tank, was sitting on the sofa watching the fishies, and found myself chortleing when the minnows went to fishie heaven with the help of a JD.

Did some re-arranging on the JD tank today during the weekly water change. "Jack" had been hiding a lot under a stump thingie for the last 2 months. Started feeding him the feeders ; he would catch them when I was out of the room. Got some Giant Danios as Dithers; no help. Thought maybe he wanted a buddy, so got another JD ("Bob")-not much change; still under the stump.
Eating good, parameters all good, just being shy...
So today, did some changing around the tank. Removed the stump, moved some plants around and gave the gravel a good cleaning. That did the job! He and Bob are out chasing the minnows (only one of the ten left after 5 hours...), cruising the tank looking for chick fish (if there was a bar, they'd stop in...)

I was amazed how big Jack had gotten. I could just see him under the stump. Bob is about 4 inches long, I wa thinking he wasn't that much smaller than his buddy-wrong! Jack had put on at least 3 inches since I last had a good look at him.
Might have to ask Santa for that 55/75 gallon tank instead of waiting for the tax refund....

Recently started up a shrimp tank (thanks John N. and Beviking for the shrimpies ) . Added two of my Brig Mystery snails. Now have 6 snail egg clutchs and at least two of the shrimpies have eggs. Neat!
Must be doing something right!

Speaking of snails...
Had a clutch appear in my community tank 2-3 months ago. Not much happened-or so I thought! Doing the weekly water change today saw the clutch had moved-wait! that's another one!
Took a close look in the tank; what I thought were pond snails were actually baby brigs! About the size of a pencil eraser; last week I had picked about 10 of them a tossed in the JD tank thinking they were pond snails (Jack likes them-yum!).
Picked them out and tossed into the shrimp tank instead.
