Hey Everybody,

I was curious to see if anyone else had done some photo editing on their fish. Here is a picture of my edited Jack Dempsey. Lets see some pictures from people who have more photoshop experience or creativity than me. Winner gets a high five! ; ) (I know mine needs a lot of work)

http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/6623/jack2editedos4.jpg

does anyone know how to get the image to paste here directly from imageshack? I have only been able to paste the link, but I'd like to make it easier for everyone to see the image. Thanks in advance.
Ross

Looks to me like a female. I'm no fish expert but i always got told males had a slight hump on the forehead.. unlike the smooth head yours looks to have..

I'll probably be way off but its a 50/50 chance eh.. :D

Looks female to me as well

I would say that yours is a male. Generally with Jack Dempseys if there is lack of irridescent marks on the gil plate or only a few spots like yours then it is a male. If there is lots of irridescent splatches on the gil plate then it is a female. Here is a pic of mine that im prety sure is a female. Notice all the irridescent marks on the gil plate

I'll have to post a more recent picture. the one thats shown above is from about 2-3 months ago, and its grown a good bit lengthwise, but has gotten a ton thicker and taller (if that makes any sense). It looks very similar to the one you just posted fish_freak (nice looking JD by the way). Except for the lower jaw coloration. Mine has less than yours, and that makes me think its a male. I guess I'll know one day if it ever lays eggs (or not) lol.

Fishflaps, I am not sure, but I don't think JD's get a nochal hump. I know for a fact that Green Terror's do, but I wasn't aware that JD's developed that at maturity. (mine isn't anywhere near mature enough to have one even if JD's do get them). Have you ever seen a picture of a JD with a hump?

c'mon guys and gals. Are there no pictures that have been modified out there that people want to share?

fishflaps

 As I said, i'm not a fish expert but I have a friend who keeps some pretty nice ones - it must have been a different one he was showing me... it looked pretty much like a JD... but obviously not :p:

I gotcha. I was just wondering b/c I would love it if mine developed a hump. I think it looks pretty cool!

I dont have photo shop. Cany justify buying it when its cheaper to print pictures online at like snapfish. I have the crappy photo program that came with my camera. HP photo edit or something like that but its pretty much just a resize and crop program.

yeah, thats what I've got at home too. BUT my job has a nice photoshop editor that I've been messing with in my spare time lately. Obviously, I'm not very good at it, but its pretty fun making normal fish look way different.

I used the goo filter with Photoshop. Its in Kai's Power Tools 6. If you can get any plugins for it, its so cool. I just love to mess about with pictures.. faces in particular can be fun!

Here's my Green Terror - i think it looks better before I did anything to it. lol

I disagree. I like the orange and other bright colors. If that was a real fish, I'd buy it! :)

Portabuddy, the tank with multiple fish is a really good job. The tank itself looks great, and the color changes you made make it look really wild. i like it!! I think I'm going to modify my blood parrot now. I'll post it in a little while. see ya'll soon.

here is what Jack really looks like now. He has gotten bigger and the colors are darker. The only edit done on the photo was that I cropped it down so the size would be acceptable for the site.

I wish my GT would start developing some color like Jack is! He has gotten more and more colorful, and my Gt is still as plain as ever. : (

Does it still look like a male? It seems to have more color on the jawplate than it used to. I hope its a male b/c they get more colorful, but either way I'll be happy. I just want to know for sure what it is. lol. It seems like everyone has a different answer.

KingOfTheDeep
11-02-2006, 9:21 AM
males dont have any color on their gillplates when mature

KingOfTheDeep
11-02-2006, 9:23 AM
your talking about the jack right?

rosswake
11-02-2006, 10:00 AM
allright, that means jack is a female since there is color on the gillplate! I guess I'm gonna have to change its name. lol.

KingOfTheDeep
11-02-2006, 11:23 AM
lol, well i wouldnt chamge it yet, he's still got a lot of growing to do

rosswake
11-02-2006, 11:41 AM
I figure if he turns out to be female, i'll probably just add an "ie" at the end and go with Jackie. gotta keep it simple for him. : )
