hey, all. I just bought "duckweed" from my LFS. they say it's just duckweed, but I know better. it looks nothing like it! it's about twice as big as standard duckweed, leaves are round, and have what look like litte warts or bumps on them. any ideas? I was thinking frogbit.

A picture would help....

sorry, i don't have a digital camera. i'm sure anyone who's seen it can go on the description. I guess they sort of look like floating clover leaves.

If it is frogbit you are much better off with it. In some places duckweed is considered invasive. Once you do get this stuff in your tank it is hard to control and it can takeover your tank. Also if you decide that someday you do not want the duckweed anymore you may have a rough time trying to get rid of it. I have not heard the same things about frogbit so you will probably be much better off with it.

yep, I got frogbit. I knew it wasn't duckweed. I don't know how I knew it was frogbit... maybe I have special powers :D anyway, thanks for helping me identify it. hope I got enough light... I only have 1.5 WPG. (BTW: what does HTH mean?)

If you've only got 1.5 wpg why would you want to further cut the light getting into the tank with a floating plant?
