Guppies are almost born pregnant! and if they have a swollen gravid spot like yours has then she will soon give birth. Guppy females can store sperm to fertilise her eggs for up to 6 months so even if you take your males away she will still have more babies. Make sure there are plenty of floating plants around and your fish are well fed and some should survive.

Forgot to also mention that if the males are always kept with the females she will often look fat even though she has recently given birth. This is her store of unfertilised eggs.

she is quite young, does that make a difference of how many fry she will have?
I will end up giving the fry to my LFS for store credit when they are big enough.

guppies birth from three months old giving birth to a dozen up to twenty fry at a time. They will produce more fry the older they get.

Your guppy will give birth very soon it looks like. There really is no telling how many she will have. I've had 3 month old guppies give birth to 10 fry, and some that had 25-30.

oh, and from where i'm standing, it looks like a Gambusina species to me. anyway... yeah, she'll pop soon.

I don't think so, to me it just looks like a non-fancy guppy.

i've seen young Gambusina affinis sold as feeder guppies all the time. wild colored guppies don't have the iridescence, and are thinner, even when pregnant. they are also smaller. trust me, I caught these fish all the time when I was younger to use as fishing bait.

:)that one's a guppy, not what she has. you have to really know your livebearers (like I do) to see the differences in the species.

:huh:Gambusina affinis, A.K.A mosquito fish. they live throughout southern north america, and have been introduced to various locales all over the world to help fight mosqiuto bourne diseases by eating mosquito larvae. the main differences between them and guppies are 1. size 2. tail shape (look closely at the tails) 3. rotundness. (mosquito fish are a lot rounder than guppies.) 4. iridesence. mosquito fish have a bodily iridescence that guppies lack.

no, trust me bettagurl, I have experience with these fish. they are mosquito fish. males have a gonopodium and are smaller, like most other livebearers.

I'm sorry, bettagurl. I wasn't directing that spelling comment at you at all. This summer we had a troll who was constantly misspelling that word. It was one of the ways we knew he had returned, under a different username! Real smart.

Your guppie boys are very pretty!

these are my boysoh yeah, those are endlers. my idea is that you got a mixed bunch of young mosquito fish and true endlers. once they start to really grow (MF get to 2") you'll see the differences.

If your guppies have large gravid spots and are really fat they are most likely pregnant. I have bred guppies my whole life and believe me, they breed really well! Good luck with your breeding!

Can a guppy and endler mate? Will the offspring be sterile? Horse+Donkey= Mule, which is sterile. Genus can mate but produce sterile offspring. Subspecies can produce fertile offspring. Swordtail+Platy= fertile offspring. Most Platy's have some Swordtail in them and vice versa.
If Endler's and Guppies can produce fertile offspring, then I agree with you.

I could be wrong(again) but I think guppies and endlers produce sterile offspring.

great looking fish bettagurl. Wish i could get hold of some endlers over here.
Betagurl you would be surprised at the survival rate of fry. I have a 55 gallon tank in which i keep alot of my female guppies. They are always giving birth abd i take out about two dozen a week.
Put plenty of plants particularly floating plants in the tanks and keep your adult fish well fed and plenty should survive.
Good luck!
