Hello all!

What's your favourite catfish? Sorry, because I could not include any more groups of catfish in the poll. I could only include the mager three groups.

I would have liked to put more options in, but it will only let me have four.

I like plecos the most... they seem to be the most hardy. I have had like 20 plecos in my life all together. Right now I have 3 or 4.

my favorite are glass catfish ("Other" category), Kryptopterus spp. They're oddballs, even for catfish :)

I voted for cories. I'm planning on getting some sterbais soon :)

I also like plecos. Believe it or not, the commons are my favorite. Can't house them in small tanks though

Tigrinus. Best looking catfish hands down IMO.

11-03-2006, 10:26 PM
I love bristlenose plecos. they don't get too big and aggressive like others, yet not too rare, sensitive, or flashy, they are the perfect catfish. I love them! :D

I voted "other" for channel catfish and bullheads because they taste soooo good.

It's not a swastika. It's an ancient Hindu symbol that also spread to Buddhism. The Asian symbols actually go in the opposite direction as the Nazi swastika.

Yay! Welcome to AquariaCentral :)

Syno's are definitely a close second for me, too. Gotta love my upside-downies :D They've got the cutest, pudgy dark brown bellies. And those bug eyes are just adorable.

red-tailed sharks aren't catfish. They're Cyprinids, so in the same family as minnows and goldfish.

But I still think you're a sweety, Flag! :)

I picked synodontis out of the catfish I keep. I have five Featherfin synos in my African tank they are extremely active with great personalities.

11-11-2006, 9:35 PM
I like my SA Redtail. Hand trained and easy going. Can't wait to move him into the 150! Girlfriend's striped raph is cool too, but he's too shy. Oh, and I love our pleco, he's a total freak. Watching him chase cucumber all over the tank right now, knocks it up out of view then fins up when it comes down on top of him - and the lemon jacks dare not go near him when he's got some cucumber or avacado!

Upside-down Catfish, though I have never kept any, I think they are cool. Doh! Can someone change my vote from other to Synodotis? :duh:

11-20-2006, 2:28 PM
Pictus catfish all the way because they look cool and are very active. When i first wanted to get them i heard they are "night predators" which sounds sooo cool.

carttman
11-20-2006, 5:18 PM
I will also say Pictus cats all the way because sort of have that prehistoric look to them with their long whiskers and are very active day or night.

Definitely Corydoras, and the OP's handle - honestly - had no influence on my decision. :p: I'm preparing a species tank for a C. panda shoal (fishless cycle).

Ret Tailed Cats are awesome, but I really love Columbian Sharks. Mine grew from a 1.5 incher in July to a 5.5 incher now! His mouth now is bigger than when I bought him. I know he isn't huge or anything, but he really looks like a shark!

I voted Synodontis, and it wasn't even close for me... I've had, at some point: S. angelicus, S. decorus, S. petricola, S. multipunctatus, S. nigriventris, S. eupterus, S. nigrita (or one of the species of "lace" cats), S. serpentis, and S. ocellifer. I'm currently resisting the urge to add S. flavitaeniatus to the list...

S. angelicus is probably my favorite species. S. decorus is a truly beautiful species, and I think S. ocellifer is highly underrated when they have a gorgeous olive coloration.

I've never had much luck with Loricariids, and I haven't kept a lot of Corydoras (or related Brochis).

I really like my Pictus Catfish. He is almost always visible in the tank, and when bloodworms are fed, he becomes an entertaining and aggressive eater, swimming all over the place like a madman.

When I first introduced him, the rainbow shark got curious and came close to take a look (he can be a real bully sometimes). The Pictus cat wasn't taking his crap, and quickly chased him back to his territory. :)

I also like the South American Bumblebee catfish, but they like to hide extensively, so it's rare to actually see them in the tank.
