Hi,
I have a 6 x 2 x 2 and Two 200 litre tanks & two 700 litre indoor ponds.
The 6 footer has a black powder coated metal stand. It has wrought iron fish (petrochromis) & Vallis welded on each end.
The two small tanks are used as growout tanks. The ponds are used for breeding the rainbows & cultivating aquatic plants.
There are 2 filters for the 6 x 2 x 2, 1 is an Eheim 2228 the other is a home construction filter.
The home construction filter is run by a submersible pump with a pre-filter sponge. 2000 litres per hour is pumped into a 60 litre container on top of the tank. In the box is a basket of media of differing grades. There is an overflow built in to the box. The main function of the filter is to bio-filtrate & aerate the water. The water level in the box fills then empties repeatedly, thus exposing the media to oxygen from the air, then when the box fills with water, the bacteria in the media process the nutrient in the water until it empties into the tank and the media is aerated again. This process requires no moving parts & has worked continuously since august 1997. Over that period the filter has been cleaned 6 times and the bulk of those cleanings were in the first year of the tank running.
With this ebb and flow, the level of the water in the tank rises and falls every 2 minutes. When the water comes gushing out of the filter, it is like a rock pool that has a wave breaking over & filling the pool. The fish love the water movement.
In the 6 ft tank I have a colony of Tropheus annectans, with B/N catfish & 2 spp. of Australian Rainbows.
