My daughter has a 10 gallon and I was wondering if the table salt would be okay for her betta. Her platy looks like she may just have the start of ich.

Table salt is perfectly fine and has no ill affects.

I've used iodized salt in all my tanks for ich. As it says in that article linked by sumthin fishy, it would take tons of salt before the trivial amount of iodine would present problems. By that time, though, your fish would be dead from too much salt. So, yes, you're fine :)

well, i completely killed my ick with it (with hard work, of course)

man... just 4 MORE DAYS!!! argh i just can't wait to add fish again...
neons or black neons or both.... lol.

good for you, Caitx! Congratulations.

What kind of salt did you use? So the original poster can hear a testimonial :)

Personally, I would use Kordon's Rid-Ich. Bettas and platys are not sensitive to ich meds, and the salt method works best when the heat is turned way up to like 86 degrees.

I feel salt does not belong in freshwater aquaria, and I have had great success with the aforementioned product in the past.
