Can live rock live ok w/ regular fluorescent bulbs that come w/ a strip or do I need the special bright kind that other invertabrae need? Thanks.

You'll be find with a standard bulb, but you may have some die-off. You might get some anenome that needs brighter light or an algae that needs it too. Otherwise you shouldn't have a problem. Coralline algaes, sponges, feather dusters, and the oh so important bacteria in the rock will be fine.
