The upside down cat most commonly (but not always) called an "upside down cat" in stores is Synodontis nigriventris...it stays small (2-3 inches) and is really nice for a smaller peaceful community set ups. However, for my Mbuna show tanks, I always use Synodontis cats in my clean up crew, like S. eupterus, S. decorus, S. Multipunctatus to name a few. For Tanganyikan show tanks, I use S. angelicus and S. petricola, and, when I can find them, S. schoutedeni ( a REALLY REALLY nice fish!). For my african cichlid breeder tanks, I don't use any - they are too good at eating fry!
