Tank upgrade!

Go fish yourself.
I have just upgraded my 5.5g to a 12g this morning. Sometime next week I would like to buy a couple of more fish/decor. It's looking sparse.

I currently have 1 male betta, 3 adult platies, and 5 tiny baby platies (that I just found out about this morning :) ). I'll probably give away most of the baby platies when they get a little bigger though. I also have 2 snails.

I have heard suggestions of cories and gouramis. What does everyone think of that? Any other suggestions would be welcome and appreciated!

Make sure you don't go through another bio-cycle from the changeover. I'd say wait about a week and be sure there is no ammonia or nitrite.

Now as far as stocking ideas, there are too many choices to list.

I would just stear clear of gouramis if you have a male betta in a tank of that size. I would give it about a 30-40% chance of friction between them. Just a little too high of a risk for me to sleep well at night.

Cories would go great. You could also look into white clouds, rasboras, small tetras, otos, cherry barbs and many others.

Hi,

I think Cories would be a good choice. Just make sure there is a lot of hiding places and a variety of food. In a 12 gallon tank, I would go with Panda Cories. Their smaller then most Cories and are very cute.

Ok, I bought some decor today! Thanks for your suggestions echo & cory lvr. I looked up the fish suggested and I like those cories & cherry barbs! In researching, I found out I also like tiger barbs & neon tetras (or any super colorful tetra). Does anyone know how those tetras & tiger barbs would go in a tank w/ a betta? I heard that tetras are nasty.

Any other suggestions welcome! Here's a pic of my new decor!

Are you gonna keep the fry?

Would clown loaches go well in my new tank? I think they're really pretty but I don't know anything about them!
No. They grow to 14 inches.

Also, no to the tiger barbs.

Honest--your tank is pretty well stocked with the platies, betta, and maybe a few bottom feeders. A 12g tank isn't that big, and you have a lot of decor. So maybe some small cories or shrimp.
