Help! My platys keep having babies. I started with 2 red wag platys and now i think i have about 20-30. Too many to count, that's for sure. I'm going to run out of room in my house if I have to keep adding tanks!!

the only sure way for livebearer "birth control" is to separate the genders. You should do this with the young'uns as soon as they're old enough to sex.

yikes! I sure have a lot of work to do!! :)

at least you've got the tanks for it! :) Good luck. It'll be a lot of work, but once it's done you'll have a much more manageable population of platies.

This may not work as I have had fully grown female platy change sex when a male was not available.

oh yeah! I forgot about that. Thanks for the reminder. What would you suggest then?

tie their tubes? j/k

I've ended my relationship with livebearers for just this reason. Heck, when you buy them from the store they are pregnant. Do you have to deal with just that one batch of fry? No Way! They keep getting pregnant for up to six months without even having a male around!

I've got one full grown platy left. She is a female that has (thankfully) stopped having fry. I then have two platy fry in a two gal. tank. If they aren't both females they are headed to the LFS!
