the price on the 5 foot tank is good they are hard to sell (oddball size)try offering him 325 and he orders the canopy for it.

but the footprint on the 4ft tank is better suited for a fahaka, they need about 24" to turn around without damae to the caudal fin. (so i've heard).

how about just going to a garage sale or 2? that's where I find most of my tanks. my fahaka is currently in a 90 gallon tank that I got for $25 (tank and stand/lights) then only dropped another $150 or so to set it up. I've also found 50 gallons for $10. I'm still on the lookout for a 125+ with a better footprint for my fahaka, he's currently about 8".

The X-tra large DIY homebuilt is gonna be my next tank. Maybe in 2 years. More bang for the buck, and you can make it exactly the size you want.

I edited your poll. :D

Anyways, I would go with the 120. Larger surface area and more room for the puffer to turn around.

thanks slip. i was going to ask but..

by the way something happend to me on the way home from work.

i was about to ask my lfs about used tanks and this beautiful tank just jumped off the floor into my lap. ok its about as crusty ugly as a tank can get, but $95 delivered for a 125 gallon was a deal i couldnt pass up. [ they also have a good stand for 100 bucks but they have a huge bunch of inventory piled on it right now. dont need it until i get this cleaned up.]

thanks to all who took the poll. will start thinking about a a tank with 24 " width after the puff grows a few more inches.. then i can get a red devil for this 125. yippee.

it always happens..

when i got to work, a guy whose father owns rental property came up to me and asked if i wanted to buy a 125 gallon and stand for $40. the renters just wanted to get rid of it. i dopeslapped my forehead in the usual manner.
it turns out the $40 tank held rats or rabbits and was pretty torn up. [probably not fishworthy.] I might still try to get it for a friend of mine, but it seems like i always hear about a good deal after i've already committed to something else.
