Keep it like it is. Have patience. Plan your next larger upgrade, since you will need it soon.

Hi,
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but don't most of your fish get too big for a 55 gallon.

They do get too big and a 90 gal or 120 gal tank will be needed in the future. Do not add anything to what you have in that tank.

im using it sort of as a grow out tank but it is still pretty boring. i have a pond for the catfish and i am making a gallon 500 concrete tank (96"x48"x30")
so space i have.
but for now i should just leave my tank the way it is?

You are going to need a VERY large tank for those fish. Channel cats get to 4 feet or bigger. They are also coldwater so it will suffer with your tropical fish. Common plecos also can get over 2 feet.
EDIT: You posted right before before me. A pond is good for the channel cat.
I don't reccommend adding anything to your tank just now.

this cat is from balmoreah texas where the pond is spring fed so the water is 79 degrees year round

Since you're going to move them to a larger tank, you could add a type of south american cichlid, such as a firemouth or a jack dempsey.
