What do you think of my setup - are shells bad?

Hey gang. I am here to post a pic of my current setup. What do you think of the seashells? They were sat out for years, cleaned over and over and over. I have had them in there for months now, no problems since. Is this something that I need to change?

My setup - what do you think?

it looks allright i guess if you like it but id only put sea shells in a Sw tank

the shells may raise the ph too high for some of your fish other than that looks good :)

nope shells can actually be considered a good thing for the particular type of fishes that you have. african cichlids like to be in hard alkaline water. the shells help somewhat in providing that. if they were different set of fish then you might not want them to be in there.

And if your water is alkaline, like mine, it's a purely aesthetic question, anyway :). At pH 7.8 and higher, shells don't make a difference anymore.

Yep... I used to keep some shells and crushed gravel in my old Tanganyikan breeding tank. They really helped to keep it up and stable.
