I have 1 amano shrimp in my 10 gallon and I decided to move it into my 5 gallon with my betta and get a few more. What's the best way to do this? Should I just fill a baggy with tank water and float it and add water once in a while? Also how many more shrimp would be good?

i guess you can put the shrimp in a bag and acclimate it like you would if you got new shrimp...

wait 15 min... add a 1/2 cup of water every 5 min... when full, dump 1/2 bag out.. do 1/2 cup water again... when full, NET them out....

well, that's my way of acclimating lol

that proably the best way, but i dont think the water conditions between his two tanks would differ that much, unless one has diftwood or rock work that could change the pH and the other doesnt or has the opposite.
just make sure the temps are the same, and then add 1/2 cup of water and then wait another 15 minutes and you should be set

wow that's it? just 1/2 cup of water and 15 min? lol.

:OT:
just askin, how do you acclimate. My way I just posted :D

Well I got it in. Now I just hope my betta doesn't think he's a snack. I guess it was easy to switch becasue my water from both my tanks are almost the same.

i acclimate the same way you do, but since hes only moving his shrimp to another of his tanks, he only has to put in 1/2 of cup once the temps are the same because the params cant differ that much since all of his water comes from the smae place, but there are a million "unless..." but since the shrimp isnt new and from an LFS, he doesnt have to go through the full acclimation, because the shrimp is already partialy acclimated

i purchased 3 more amano shrimps today. first, i float the bag in my tank for about half an hour so the temperatures equalizes. then i cut the top, fold the plastic bag down so it floats, and use a clip to secure it on the frame. take a small cupful of tank water, and slowly pour into the bag. later on, i'll empty about 25% of the water and fill it more with the tank water every 10-15 minutes or so. i'll probably repeat this 4 or 5 times. sounds slow, but thats the way i do it. you can probably do it faster but this is pretty much fool proof. the shrimps will slowly acclimate to my tanks water chemistry so that way, i'll be able to net them up and put them straight into my tank.
