Guys. As most of you know the tap water lately is high in algae count, causing my tank to be cloudy. Will using store bought filtered water (like the bg 5 gallon jugs) be good for water changes? It would only cost $1.25 per 5 gallons for this, but is the water safe? What are your thoughts?

i dont know. i think that water has chlorine in it, still...unless its DISTILLED water, then its COMPLETELY pure water and...then it should be fine. i think. sorry cant seem to give a straight answer.

I am tired of tap water....any suggestions?

Filtered water is usually ultra soft with a PH rating below 6 and no buffering capacity. I'm pretty sure you would need to at least mix it with some tap water and not add too much filtered water at once or you could fluctuate the tank's PH drastically.

Don't use distilled water. It will kill the fish in larger amounts. As far as filtered water goes, it depends on the filter. Whether you will have a stable quality or not depends on the maintenance.

yeah, distilled water contains no minerals, nothing but pure water. if you use it, it'll pull the minerals out of the cells of the fish (osmotic shock) and kill them. cloudy water in itself isn't really a big deal, just an aesthetic one, right? is it damaging your fish in any way? maybe throw in an airstone for extra surface agitation and don't overfeed. only keep the lights on for 8 hours. with less light and less food the algae will die off.
