Is a 100 gallon wave front tank big enough for an adult Fahaka

is an adult aprox’ 18”. The tank is 48” X 24” X 25” and decreases in depth to one side

Is 5ppm ammonia cycled in 24hrs high enough for this big *** puffer fish? Should / can I cycle 10ppm ammonia to insure adequate bio-filter capacity for this size of fish?

I think the tank is actualy a 95 gallon wave.... not 100 gal

ammonia???? you don't want any ammonia in the tank when the puffer's in there. if you're doing a fishless cycle, then yes. :)

Yes……….I am referring to a fishless cycle. The fish is not in a tank I don’t have yet…. I am asking questions before I get the fish

if it's the perfecto surfline tank, it's either a 75 or 90, and by what you posted I'm guessing 90.

It would hold the fahaka for a long time, possibly life, but I doubt you'll have luck with any tank mates:)

I'd say 5ppm back to 0 in a day would be sufficient, just don't feed too heavily right at first:)

Thanks Rallysman.

This guy can not have tank-mates. It would be for just him and some java ferns & anibus. Its kind of a rescue effort. Hes a full grown fish in too small of a tank and I want to set him up in a good home.

A funny side note… I asked a gal at my LFS the fishless cycle question and she came unglued. I guess she doesn’t believe in a cycle that can be done without fish, because if there was such a thing to put in the tank, she said they would sell it at the pet store. She told me to be careful about what I read and warned me not to try some untested magic method……… she suggested that I buy a bottle of cycle……….

Cycle won't do anything without a source of ammonia. Some people don't understand cycling which is why the fish they are selling are dying. Puffer's are awesome!
